It is widely utilized for biochemistry applications fixative before staining or SDS-PAGE. This chemical has a pungent odor with low melting point of -14 degrees Celsius. It is also utilized in pharmaceutical industry for treating common and plantar warts. Glutaraldehyde is produced by oxidation of cyclopentene which is followed by hydrolysis.
